My Top Ten Naija Albums Ever

index 2

Hey guys, I trust you guys are doing well. I am so sorry for the long break. I have been having issues with my new web page (www.dipoogun.com) and my web developer guy hasn’t been available. I have decided to use this medium to reach out to you guys for now. I am so sorry guys and thanks for the continued support and patience.

I love music no doubt but y’all know footy is my thing right? I thought you knew, anyway now you know. I love music and I am happy with the rate at which Naija songs are accepted world over. It’s a good thing though and if you ask me who my favourite artiste is at the moment I can’t help but say Olamide. I have heard all types of songs from Nigerian artistes and it’s hard for me to narrow down my top ten Naija albums but I needed to come up with a list. I expect to get chewed, shredded, lacerated or merked up for coming up with this list but it’s my list and strictly my opinion.

Find my top 10 Naija albums ever below counting down from number 10 to number 1:

10. C.E.O; Chief Executive Omoita (DaGrin): one of Naija’s best rappers ever despite having his career cut short no thanks to death. This album surely is one of the most popular albums ever made in Nigeria. He was so good all artistes in Nigeria wanted to do a collaboration with him. This album is a classic and a must have (had). My favourite song on the album was idi nla featuring LaLa but there were other monster hits like Kondo, PomPom and Thank GOD to name a few.

9. Independent (Faze): this album was my Naija album of the year when I was on IT. I listened to it when I left the house in the morning, during lunch break, whenever I was free and on my way back home it was this same album. I loved kpo kpo di kpo, Alphabetical Love, Tattoo girls and my brother.

8. Grass to Grace (Tuface): I respect this man popularly called Tu Baba a lot, his exploits in the Nigerian Music Industry speaks for him. This album is an album that was a favourite in my home and hall in school. Not bad at all. My favourite song on the album is See Me So but there are other hits like True Love, I dey feel like, E be like say, For Instance and If Love is a Crime.

7. Gongo Aso (9ice): This is by far 9ice’s best work ever. All songs from beginning to end were lovely. My personal favourite on the album is Photocopy. I can listen to this album all day non stop. Other hits include Wedding Day, Gongo Aso, Party Rider and  Bachelor.

6. We, Me and Abami (Lagbaja): a masterpiece from the masked one, a three in one album. He featured the late Fela Anikulapo-Kuti in the Abami album. Songs like Gra Gra, Vernacular, Put Am Well Well, Konko Below, Suurulere and Nothing For You made this album a super hit at the turn of the new millennium.

5. 7 Degrees North (Sunny Ade): Truth be told the album title sold this album to my soul. I just love the title and if I am right King Sunny Ade got Nigeria’s first ever grammy nod with his ODU album. 7 Degrees North had the popular Merciful GOD in it, Appreciation, Solution and Sijuade.

4. Baddest Guy Ever Liveth (Olamide): Olamide aka Baddo aka Baddo Lee has surely snatched the crown of best rapper in Africa from who ever held it. Mad delivery, sensible lyrics and beats that are always on point. I have been a fan of this dude since he released Rapsodi his debut album. Hits on this album are Turn Up, Durosoke (my niece’s favourite off the album), eleda, Anifowose, Scammer, Position Yourself to mention a few.

3. C’est Un African Thing (Lagbaja): Omo oba mukomuko is one hell of a creative musician. I always went to his Motherlan’ whenever I could all thanks to my big brothers and cousins. He handles the saxophone like its a new bride (does that even make any sense?lol). I will never forget when he woke me up blowing his sax to the tune of Ese Ese o Ese o e wa ma lo (thank you, thank you, thank you, you can now take your leave). This album was a favourite at some point in the house. I loved baby Tani ko fe wa, Coolu temper, Africalypso and owo Eko to mention a few from the album.

2. Entertainer (D’banj): if you thought I would make a list without D’banj on it then you have to be joking. This guy killed the album and yes Don Jazzy played a big part no doubt, but if a song flops we won’t remember who the producer was. My favourite song on the album is Suddenly which happened to be my favourite Naija song for a long time. The album also had tight hits like gbono felifeli, fall in love, entertainer and OLORUN maje.

1. Lag Style (Trybesmen): some say the Remedies put Naija hip hop in the spotlight but for me Trybesmen comprising of eLDee the Don, Kaboom the Detonator and Freestyle the Shogun made Naija hip hop blow. I got hold of this album thanks to my big bro just after I finished high school. This album had mad hits like shake bodi, trybal marks, shake bodi (remix) and asiko laye. Love it.

Thanks for your time and remain BLESSED !!!
